Taking the Michael

Article Abstract:

Welsh first secretary, Alun Michael, faces a vote of no-confidence due to concern that European Union (EU) subsidies could be lost as a result of a failure of the British government to match European funds. Much of Wales is poor and qualifies for EU aid. A new first secretary will have to be chosen, though Michael does not believe that he should resign since he cannot control whether central government provides funds. An agreement could be reached between Michael and the Liberal Democrats.
