Technological change and efficiency in the presence of quasi-fixed inputs: a DEA application to the hospital sector

Article Abstract:

A major limitation of quasi-fixed inputs, present in almost all economic sectors, is that they cannot be adjusted to their optimal value even in the long run. A study proposes a modified data envelopment analysis (DEA) method introducing quasi-fixed inputs and applies it to emergency services in a Canadian hospital to demonstrate that the constraint can be overcome.

Sensitivity and dimensionality tests of DEA efficiency scores

Article Abstract:

The issues of dimensionality are addressed for enhancing the credibility of DEA (data envelopment analysis) results in practical applications. An empirical procedure is developed to test whether a calculated DEA efficiency score reflects the dimension of the model or the existence of inefficiency.
