Telecom Italia seeks defense against Olivetti
Article Abstract:
The managing director of Telecom Italia SpA, Franco Bernabe, called for a board meeting on March 4, 1999. In the meeting, Mr. Bernabe is expected to ask for support for his plan to defend the company against Olivetti's $58 billion takeover bid. Telecom would not reveal the details of the board meeting. In a previous board meeting, the company's board directed Mr. Bernabe to study the possibility of combining Telecom Italia with its Telecom Italia Mobile SpA cellular phone subsidiary.
