Tory party finances head out of the red

Article Abstract:

The UK Conservative party reduced its overdraft by almost 9 million pounds sterling to 2.5 million pounds in 1995, according to Brian Mawhinney, chairman of the party. Mawhinney argues that the party is likely to perform well in a forthcoming election because the economy is growing and this will be reflected in voters' personal finances. Mawhinney argues that the way to counter criticism that the government has raised taxes is to state that the government is proud of its actions, which show that it can tackle a crisis.
