The NHL takes a well-aimed shot at building fans in Japan

Article Abstract:

The Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks will kick off their 1998-1999 season in Tokyo, Japan, marking the second year in a row for two NHL teams to play game series in Tokyo. The games are under an ongoing effort by the National Hockey League to promote hockey in Asia, particularly in Japan, as well a screate a growing fan base. The 1997 NHL hockey games featured the match-up of Vancouver Canucks and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. NHL also runs a HockeyFest to support the games, providing the chance for fans to participate in an in-line hockey tournament.

Israel stays positive to woo tourists

Article Abstract:

Israel's tourism industry has introduced a major advertising campaign in North America that shows that the country is safe to visit in spite of the constant reports of violence. Aimed at Canadian Jews, the campaign uses full-page advertisements in the weekly newspapers, the Canadian Jewish News of Toronto and Montreal, and the Western Jewish Bulletin of Vancouver. Also, advertisements appear in major dailies with tourists explaining why they are in Israel now.
