The appeal of convertibles: gaining access to Taiwan's pricey market

Article Abstract:

Taiwanese convertible bonds, currently trading at double-digit discounts to corresponding share prices, offer investors with easy access to the local market with the added assurance benefit that they will not fall as much as domestic shares. Investments are recommended especially on the electronics sector as discounts continue to rise because local banks' have raised net asset value ceiling to 20% and trade relations with China are improving.

Hong Kong property shares provide a hedge against yuan devaluation

Article Abstract:

A report released by SBC Warburg indicated that Hong Kong investors should focus stock acquisitions on property investment firms due to a predicted 11 percent devaluation in the yuan by the end of 1997. Similarly, Hong Kong firms that are heavily dependent on yuan should also be considered. The buy signal was given to Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd., Yue Yuen Industrial Holdings Ltd. and Innovative International Ltd.
