The burgeoning of the bourgeoisie: all over the world, disposable incomes are rising. For consumer goods manufacturers, this emerging global middle class is fast becoming the new holy grail. But western companies will need to be better than ever at knowing what the customer wants

Article Abstract:

Many home markets for western consumer goods manufacturers are suffering from saturation and are becoming overcroweded with competitors. Growth possibilities are coming from newly industrialised economies. Estimates of potential purchasing power of consumers can be obtained from the World Bank and other institutions but there is no precise definition of the middle class disposable income figure. General Manager of Goodman Fielder, a food group which distributes staples throughout Asia, believes that determining what the consumer wants is important.

The late-starter's alternative MBA: there is an increasing demand for innovate management programmes that benefit individuals as well as companies

Article Abstract:

There is a need for alternative types of management education from the traditional MBA programme and shorter executive development courses. Programmes need to be created that are more suited to the varied requirements of an organisation and management education and management development need to be harmonised. INSEAD, an international business school, offers courses tailored to single companies, and consortium MBA programmes, with the aim of designing a truly international project.

The burgeoning demand for a company health scheme

Article Abstract:

The Institute of Directors conducted a survey of 1,000 members in Sept. 1980 regarding future development of company initiated health plans. Results indicate that companies with trade union representation or more than 100 employees were more likely to have private health plans.
