The canning problem revisited: the case of capacitated production and fixed demand

Article Abstract:

A profit function function which takes into account production cost and under-production penalties was employed to show that the production of an optimal mean is the most favorable method in machine-fill type production processes. Results also reveal that relative profit is an asymmetric function of the process mean as the ingredient cost becomes lesser in comparison to production and recycling costs.

Research into the heuristic transformation of the capacitated arc routing problem with multiple centres into a multiple centre capacitated minimum spanning tree problem with arc constraints is presented. The running time is a key element in the heuristic for the arc routing problem.
