Article Abstract:

An evaluation of both efficiency increasing and efficiency decreasing mergers in a procurement setting that includes likelihood of high production costs. The study finds that profitable efficiency decreasing mergers increase the expected price even as profitable efficiency decreasing mergers decrease it, and some particular pair of firms do not have profitable mergers. Merging firms can choose to decrease their post merger level of efficiency.
