Article Abstract:

Research is presented to explain why Americans are becoming increasingly overweight, with 97 million American adults considered overweight according to National Institutes of Health weight guidelines. The human adenovirus-36 has been linked to obesity, together with the Wnts proteins which regulate fat. Research on the Mc3r brain receptor may explain why people put on weight despite eating moderately, while the fat hormone leptin may ultimately regulate cravings.

Economic forecasting; dismal science: dismal record

Article Abstract:

Economic forecasting has been seen as inaccurate not only in the UK but worldwide. Growth in the G7 economies was underestimated in the 1980's. The US, UK and Canada have shown much lower output than the forecasters estimated. Economic forecasting tables give a fuller picture of international trends as predicted.

Article Abstract:

The incoming Clinton administration has three policy options on the defense drawdown available: let market forces operate, create a conversion plan, or institute broad procurement reforms. Only this last option promises the cost savings that could finance worker retraining.
