Go with the flow

Article Abstract:

Flowcharts, pareto charts, time-ladder charts and fishbone charts all provide a useful means of pinpointing the causes of productivity problems in offices. By breaking down procedures into a logical sequence of inputs, processes and outputs, flowcharts can help identify where problems occur. Pareto charts, which consist of a bar graph that plots the various problems experienced against the number of times they occur, highlight the main problem. Time-ladder charts show how employee time is spent, while fishbone charts provide a basis for discussing the reasons for a productivity problem.

The need for reappraisal

Article Abstract:

Lime can assist in making very high quality mortars that are very suitable for building thick, low stressed brickwork of traditional structures. It is also valuable for use in renders and plasters. However, it is important to be aware that lime comes in a number of different forms, and the application should determine the form used. Non-hydraulic lime/sand mortars can be very helpful in restoration and conservation work. However, lime is not necessarily appropriate for external masonry mortars for laying or for rendering, as it does not always have sufficient durability.
