The next domino?

Article Abstract:

Depreciation of the South Korean won is causing many people to fear that South Korea might suffer the sort of financial crisis which has hit Southeast Asian countries. The economy has some features which indicate that a disaster could be avoided, but it is undergoing a severe slump, the currency fell to 999 won to the dollar on Nov 10 1997, and experts believe that its foreign-currency reserves are very low. South Korea is 12th in the list of world traders, so a crisis here would have severe global consequences, and would particularly affect Japan and Taiwan.
