The next step: Asian nations climb the ladder of technology to stay a leg up on the competition

Article Abstract:

South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and China are considered the leading Asian nations in the race toward technological advancement in the region. These countries have realized that economic development cannot be sustained through technologies acquired from the developed nations. Among the technological leaders, South Korea shows the greatest promise because of strong government support and unwavering commitment by domestic firms. Taiwan's growth as a technological leader has been hampered by the absence of adequate funding for research.

Many analysts noted that such strategies will ensure South Korea long-term competitiveness in the international market.
