The perils of pork and gravy

Article Abstract:

There have been protests over public spending policies in Japan. Projects such as airports, dams, bridges and roads have been carried out with public funds, and opposition has been based on environmental concerns. There is also concern among the public about the impact of high levels of spending on public finances, and the debts that have been incurred. There is concern about how borrowed money will be repaid, especially since Japan's population is ageing.
