The policy maker in the City

Article Abstract:

Michael Cassidy is chmn of the policy committee of the City of London, England. He came to notice in the 1980s as chmn of the City's planning committee where he took a entrepeneurial attitude to the development boom following financial deregulation. Cassidy is an advisor to Prince Charles and a member of the City Architecture Forum but he does not agree totally with the Prince and welcomes some modernist buildings. Cassidy believes London will slowly recover from the glut of office space but most new development will be small scale.

News: London planning. (Strategic guidance encourages tourism and regeneration)

Article Abstract:

Strategic planning guidance for London has been published by the government, calling on planners to encourage hotel, exhibition hall and art quarter developments, and 234,000 further dwellings by 2006. The guidance has been criticised by the London Planning Advisory Committee, contesting the claim of the shortage of medium priced bed space. Regeneration advice concentrates on London corridors and central area margins, and the Thames is earmarked as an important open space.
