The power of two: charting evolution

Article Abstract:

Scientists at the Fifth North American Palaeontological Convention disagreed about how to classify the evolutionary pattern of sea urchins. Their disagreement demonstrated how DNA evidence is not always foolproof. Morphological anatomical changes must be taken into consideration.

Scientists trying to discover the origin of life are now turning to computers to determine what are the characteristics that define life. If it can be determined what came before bacteria the possibility exists a rudimentary form of 'artificial life' could be created by man.

Bone people: human evolution

Researchers are now using computer models to study mitochondrial DNA to find the original human being. Alan Wilson's research postulates the first human woman lived 200,000 years ago in Africa. Others, such as Rachel Caspari have disputed his findings.
