The privatization of Swarzedz Furniture Company (SFM): lessons from learned from Poland's first underwritten public offering

Article Abstract:

The Swaredz Furniture Co (SFM) was the first state-owned enterprise which was sold to the private sector after the Polish government decided to implement a privatization program. The privatization of SFM showed that despite the absence of a fully developed capital market, public offerings can be used as a means of achieving objectives. In addition, restructuring within the context of privatization is an ongoing process which takes place before, during and after the privatization transaction.

The role of government in Poland's economic transition: ideas and experience from the recent past

Article Abstract:

Poland's main economic program for overhauling its moribund economy is privatization. Although the government is intensely committed to this course, its questionable stability coupled with the difficulties which are inherent in the transition from Communism to Democracy have effectively limited the gains of privatization. A more integrated and coordinated strategy is needed to be implemented.
