It is vital that any UK investor considering becoming involved in management buyout deals in continental Europe carefully balances the potential benefits against the potential risks. It is important to link with a reliable adviser to ensure that risks are reduced to a minimum. Eventual investment return is very much determined by the structure of the acquisition, so careful attention must be given to this aspect of the deal.

Article Abstract:

The number of public-to-private transactions has grown over the last 18 months, with 1 billion pounds sterling of management buyout funding required by 20 deals. The buyout of Willis Corroon by KKR for 851 million pounds sterling was one of the most notable deals. Other public-to-private transactions included the buyout of JLI, for which the Bank of Scotland supplied senior debt funding.
