The radical reconstruction of a Wren church

Article Abstract:

St James Garlickhythe church in London, UK, was restored following damage caused by a falling crane. The crane left a crater in the floor and destroyed the roof of the church, which was built by Christopher Wren. The crane was reduced to small pieces for ease of removal. A damaged window in the church was replaced by creating a mould from fragments of the original cast-iron window. A new oak roof was built and covered in Welsh slate. Some of the original mahogany, teak and oak floor blocks were re-laid. The west front of the church was also repaired and cleaned.
