The real economic globalists

Article Abstract:

Economic nationalism would lead to serious problems. Traditional internationalism is no solution either, since it is unsuited to world capital markets and an international trading order. Internationalism involved agreements between governments and policing by institutions answerable to governments. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) should not be given more power. An international system of 'best practices' should be set up and the IMF could assess whether countries meet these standards. The IMF should not bail out imprudent lenders and governments that do not want to comply with minimum standards.

The right stuff

Article Abstract:

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is putting into place a number of strategies to help ailing Asian economies. Thailand has been told to tackle corruption and inefficient management practices, introduce accountability, reduce imports and maintain export levels. South Korea is under pressure to keep inflation at 5% and 14 financial institutions may close. There are concerns that the IMF measures may cause recessions in Asian economies because they do not encourage growth. The Asian legal system cannot deal with complicated bankruptcies and mergers.
