Dixie Yarns, Inc

Article Abstract:

Yarn and thread manufacturer Dixie Yarns, Inc (DXYN) claims to have devised a plan to counter the financial problems that have been plaguing them since 1987. A small, but reassuring, profit of 3 cents per share for the quarter ending Mar 1992 verifies it. Aggressive foreign competition and low demand for its product brought the company to its present dilemma. However, DXYN has found an investor in Mount Vernon Mills Inc. The shares of DXYN has also encouragingly increased at 11. The company pays a dividend of 20 cents on the 8.8 million shares classified as common and Class B common. Institutions hold approximately 48% of the common shares.

The Gregory K. case

Article Abstract:

The Gregory K. case has stirred debate over the legal rights of children. Conservatives claimed that the sanctity of the family had been threatened when Gregory Kingsley successfully sued to have the custody rights of his biological parents terminated. Children's rights advocates saw it as the bestowing of legal rights on a disenfranchised, powerless group of citizens. The precedent set by the case is limited to a matter of procedure, as courts already held the right to terminate parental custody rights.
