Article Abstract:

Specialist designers should be employed to create new shopping facilities, which incorporate specially-designed interior fittings and floor space. The designers of a newly opened shop in Amsterdam, Holland, incorporated glass, steel and special lighting to produce a shop which offered customers maximum visibility of merchandise. East meets west

Article Abstract:

A new kindergarden and community hall for people with learning disabilities designed by Nicolas Pople and Andrew Beard manifest building designs along anthroposophical lines. The plan shape of both buildings was generated from precise geometrical rules and the resulting soft forms are intended to support the curative work with the residents who are highly sensitized individuals.

Stepping backwards in time

Article Abstract:

Cantilevered staircases have been constructed in the United Kingdom since the 1500's but they are very seldom used in modern architecture. Staircase structures based on the cantilever system have been installed in university buildings at Balliol College, Oxford, England. They are constructed in precast-concrete. Staircase design issues are debated.
