The whore of the Republic

Article Abstract:

Elf employed Christine Deviers-Joncour to lobby the French government for Thomson, which sought to sell frigates to Taiwan, a deal initially vetoed by the French government. The veto was removed in 1991. Deviers-Joncour was a lover of the French foreign minister, Ronald Dumas. He claims that he opposed the deal, and did not receive commission from Elf. Deviers-Joncours received another commission, and has been investigated for corruption. Dumas is under pressure to resign.
