Thimm Obaly

Article Abstract:

Thimm Obaly (TO) (Vsetaty, Czech Republic), corrugated paperboard packaging manufacturer, plans to invest 200 mil Kc in 1999-2003. The firm wants to increase its capacities to take a 10% share on the Czech market. TO's plant, which has been in operation since 1996, produces 80 mil sq mt of corrugated cardboard packaging per year. Most of the packaging is printed by the patented method Thimm Color. About 500 mil Kc have been invested in the plant so far. The company saw a turnover of 500 mil Kc in 1997. The plant commissioned a corrugated paperboard line in 1997. The firm's consumers are Procter & Gamble (Czech Republic), Plzensky Prazdroj (Czech Republic), Unilever (Czech Republic) and Cokoladovny (Czech Republic). Most of the company's production is intended for the domestic market. TO plans to supply its products to Slovenia, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, the Ukraine and Belarus. TO has 100 employees currently. The number should double shortly. The plant is wholly-owned by Thimm Verpackung (Germany).

SME cancels its service stations

Article Abstract:

Severomoravska energetika (SME) (Ostrava, Czech Republic), electric power distributor, plans to invest over 1.6 bil Kc in 1998. The investment will be used mainly for the renovation of SME's distribution networks. SME, which is the largest Czech electric power distributor, supplies electric power to 14% of the Czech territory and covers 21% of all Czech electric power consumption. SME will decrease the number of its district service stations to 23 in its region in 1998 compared to the original 48.

Billions in wires

Article Abstract:

ZDB (Bohumin, Czech Republic), iron company, will invest 12 mil Kc in its wire plant in 1999. The plant should sell products worth a total of 2.84 bil Kc in 1999. About 55% of the volume should be exported, mainly to Poland, Slovenia, Germany and the Netherlands. The wire plant exports about 2,000 t of special brass-plated and annealed wires to the US every year.
