Thoroughly modern millionaire

Article Abstract:

Lakshmi Mittal has transformed the Ispat International steel company from being an Indian family firm into being the first global steel producer. Mittal has bought up loss-making steel producers in countries including Germany, Ireland and Mexico, but the deal which really put the company into the global league was the purchase of long-established American steel producer Inland Steel Co. Mittal describes himself as a driven man. He may be working on up to three acquisitions at one time. He has lived outside India since 1978 but retains Indian citizenship and uses Indian business practices.
