Through the glass cylinder: the RWE Tower is an elegant glass cylinder on the Essen skyline. With its natural ventilation, can it be called an ecological high-rise?

Article Abstract:

Ingenhoven Overdiek Kahlen und Partner's RWE Tower in Essen has been completed. The building features natural ventilation via a double-skinned facade, and there is a sense of openness, particularly at the lower levels. The circular corridor supplies and returns air from ducts, when windows cannot be opened, and underfloor perimeter convectors provide the heating, whilst cooling is provided by chilled ceiling panels.
