Article Abstract:

The financial woes of Japanese banks have grown worse, as the 28% drop in bank shares is well below the Nikkei average. The lending ability of Japanese banks fluctuates with the stockmarket. Bank loans are a main source of credit, being equivalent to 90% of Japan's gross national product (GNP) in 1991.
