Time Warner sharpens its vision of Europe

Article Abstract:

Time Warner will set up a cross-media initiative called Visions of Europe, which will prompt an editorial and marketing team-up between CNN International, and the magazines Fortune and Time in December 1998. MediaCom international media director David McMurtrie noted that the initiative contains interactive and editorial components. In addition, Fortune appointed Time Atlantic publisher and vice president Wil Merritt as its European publisher. Fortune promoted former Time Atlantic business development manager Regina Gill as European advertising sales director.

Viagra win hardens Carat's resolve

Article Abstract:

Carat has landed a $200 million contract to handle the media buying account for Pfizer's blockbuster impotence drug Viagra. Carat president Matthew Bryant said the win was a special one because the company competed in a market dominated by full-service agencies. Carat was one of 40 agencies which pitched for the account. The list was eventually downselected to Carat/MBS Media, Creative Media and incumbents Paragon Media and RJ Palmer.

Music channel rivalry hots up

Article Abstract:

MTV Networks Inc is close to signing an agreement with German cable company Deutsche Telekom, a deal which will heat up the rivalry between MTV and Viva, a music station in Germany. MTV claimed that the agreement would turn the cable channel into the most widely distributed 24-hour channel in Europe. The deal would also guarantee MTV's status as the largest music channel in Germany, penetrating 87% of German households.
