Time may be right for banks

Article Abstract:

Consolidation in the Hong Kong banking sector may be imminent as the Hong Kong Monetary Authority wants to see a decrease in the number of large banks, acquisition offer prices are on the rise, larger banks can operate at lower costs, and foreign companies are entering the market, making it easier to sell psychologically. Dah Sing Financial Holdings, Wing Hang Bank, and Wing Lung Bank are thought to be wise investments.

Banks line up at China's door

A McKinsey and Co. survey reports that middle and high income Chinese consumers are willing to take on more risk in selecting financial products like credit cards and loans. In light of these consumer preferences, foreign banks will encounter numerous opportunities when they enter China. Credit cards and mortgages are promising areas for forward-thinking banks.
