Article Abstract:

Eurocopter has introduced two new versions of its AS 532 U2 (Mk 2) Cougar military helicopter. The new UE and UL versions were developed to address the short range limitation of the AS 532 UC. Engines and rotors of the new versions were not changed. The UL features sponsons and a retractable undercarriage while the UE has a fixed tricycle undercarriage and no sponsons. The new versions are able to carry four more troops and their fuel capacity has increased by more than 30% over the UC.

CSAR Cougars for Greece?

Article Abstract:

Greek Defence Minister Akis Tsoxatzopoulos announced the acquisition of four AS 532 Cougars in a ceremony in which the Hellenic Ministry of Merchant Marine accepted delivery of two SAR-configured Eurocopter AS 332C1 Super Pumas. The additional helicopters are expected to be used in combat search and rescue missions. The contract is scheduled to be signed in Feb 2000 and deliveries are expected by end of the year.

Turbomeca down under

Article Abstract:

Turbomeca will build an engine overhaul facility at Bankstown, New South Wales which will service an agreement with Australia's Defence Acquisition Organisation as part of the Defence Industry Investment Recognition program. The facility will provide maintenance services to Arriel engines which are being used in Australasian Eurocopter Squirrel, Dauphin and Sikorsky S-76 helicopters.
