Trains in Bangkok won't stop traffic

Article Abstract:

The Thai government intends to build a 14.9-mi. commuter rail system that will cut across Bangkok to ease the city's worsening traffic problem. However, many people believe that the rail system will not be able to achieve its goal because of prevailing attitude among many Thais that cars serve as status symbols. Moreover, they stress that the rail system will not be able to cope with the ever-increasing number of cars entering the city's roads, which increase by about 1,200 everyday.

Bangkok computer bazaar caters to techno-buffs

Article Abstract:

Pantip Plaza in Bangkok, Thailand, is a five-floor shopping center where shoppers can get the best bargains on computers, computer peripherals and software. Surprisingly, the top-sellers in Pantip Plaza are not low-end clones or second-hand equipment from the West but computers that run Intel Corp.'s Pentium 120 MHz or 130 MHz chips. Pantip Plaza also used to be a notorious center for pirated software but police crackdowns have virtually eliminated the problem.
