Transparency and anarchy in the Barbican

Article Abstract:

Brendan Woods Architect refurbished a 1973 building on a budget of 35,000 pounds sterling. Alterations focused on the kitchen/dining room, the basement, which became a children's playroom, and an en-suite shower room. The original kitchen was opened out to the living space and varied colours were used to define areas, although views to each space are a recurring theme, using glass doors. The en-suite shower room continues the theme of transparency, featuring a door of sand-blasted toughened glass.

Las Vegas-bound: Is Paul Davies the next Marshall McLuhan? He certainly expects to be either that or 'in the gutter' by this time next year

Article Abstract:

Paul Davies believes that architecture is about publicity and the continuing production of big ideas aimed at pleasing the crowds. He sees Las Vegas as the architectural ideal and he intends to turn the footage of a visit to Las Vegas with Tim Pyne, of the company Work, into a television programme. Tim Pyne's company is designing the part of the Dome, described as being about nationality. Paul Davies is currently teaching at South Bank School of Architecture.
