Mubarak's campaign against Islamic extremism has become too indiscriminate and brutal. He seems oblivious to the Egyptian parallel to Algeria, and is probably not subject to US pressure to negotiate because he believes many Egyptian terrorists were trained by the CIA during the Cold War.
