Turning heat into light: conflict as a healthy process

Article Abstract:

Conflict can benefit organizations because it can stimulate the imagination of organizational members and eventually lead them to think more logically. The organization's intellectual power is then liberated and used optimally. It is therefore important for managers to have the necessary skills for fostering and tapping the collective intelligence of their workforce. Those who succeed in this endeavor gain access to a resource critical to the success of their business. Conflicts within organizations are often solved in such forums as conferences, discussion groups, networks, panel debates, symposia and workshops. Of these, corporate networking works best in encouraging the free development of initiatives that are generated when organizational members are given opportunities to have informal discussions.

Effective organizational control: a framework, applications, and implications

Article Abstract:

Recent research has focused on a number of different aspects of organisational control, and has sought to indicate how organisational control systems can have a key function as part of the overall management process. The main elements of a company's control system are a 'core control system,' structure and culture. The first element is in turn made up of five related elements: planning, operations, measurements, feedback and evaluation-rewards. The most effective control system is one which unites the aims of employees with those of the company as a whole.
