UBS sticks to original Budget

Article Abstract:

UBS Capital made a majority investment into Budget Rent a Car operation in Benelux and Finland. The Belgian company Alcopa invested in the deal by forming a partnership with UBS Capital, which will open up the Belgian markets. The management team also invested in the deal. The transaction included acquisition funding worth 40 million pounds sterling and 240 million pounds sterling for debt rearrangement and working capital. The initial cost of the purchase was agreed in Jul 1998 and was honoured by UBS despite the economic downturn in the second half of 1998.

Looking to Grohe brand in the US

Article Abstract:

BC Partners' completion of the leveraged buyout (LBO) of German sanitary equipment supplier Friedrich Grohe is one of Europe's largest LBOs so far in 1999. In a tussle which went to the wire, America's Kohlberge Kravis Roberts (KKH) was expected to edge out trade rival and plumbing supplier Kohler, but BC Partners ultimately seized the prize, which follows its $844 million buyout of Irish drinks distributor Cantrell & Cochrane.

Thales sells instruments division

France-based Thales has sold Slough-based Thales Instruments, a maker of air defense data communications equipment, to an investor group that includes JF Lehman and Co, a U,S. private equity firm, and Thomas Weisel Capital Partners, a US. fund, for US$123.9 million.
