UK: ABI ASKS FOR ANNUITY GUIDELINES

Article Abstract:

Following the launch of the innovative Annuity Growth Account by Canada Life in May 2000, the UK Association of British Insurers (ABI) has asked the Pensions Schemes Office (PSO) to draw up guidelines covering which features of investment-linked products are either acceptable or unacceptable. Canada Life's product is unique in that it offers the option of changing the annuity every five years to take advantage of ant possible rises in rates. In addition, the lifetime annuity purchase may be deferred until the age of 85, rather than 75. The PSO has confirmed that it working with the Inland Revenue's capital and savings division to draw up guidelines, but it is not yet known when they will be available.

UK: ABI SETS UP INTERNET SERVICE FOR COMPARISONS

Article Abstract:

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has set up an Internet service which enables users to compare international funds and fixed interest funds. Using the grading system Investment Classification Group of the ABI, users can look at funds in the same sector. According to the director general of the ABI, Mary Francis, investors and advisers should be able to contrast pensions and life products easily.

UK: AXA BACKS ISAS WITH PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN

Article Abstract:

Axa, the French life and pensions company, has launched a GBu 6mn marketing campaign to promote its position as a leading retail investment fund provider. The campaign targets independent financial advisers, from which Axa would like to receive at least half of its sales. The promotion will include mail shots and trade press advertising.
