UK: NATIONWIDE PREPARES FOR ROW WITH CHARCOL

Nationwide chief executive Brian Davis has indicated that he will publicly question Bradford and Bingley-owned mortgage broker Charcol's impartiality. Charcol has been urging customers to consider low fixed rate deals as opposed to the Nationwide's new pricing policy, but Davis claims it is not good for the industry to ask customers to transfer to low short-term rates. Charcol offers independent financial advice and would not have its independence compromised, insists a Charcol official.

UK: STANDARD LIFE UNDER FIRE FROM CA

Article Abstract:

Standard Life Bank has come under fire from the Consumers' Association following plans to penalise customers seeking the best deal. Standard Life will not offer discounted rates to borrowers seeking a remortgage within two years of having left the bank. The plans have been investigated and have not been found to be in breach of the law or fair trading.

UK: PIA WARNS AGAINST MISUSE OF PAST PERFORMANCE

Article Abstract:

The Personal Investment Authority (PIA) has issued a warning to IFA companies against misleading consumers by using past performance figures. The warning was included in a regulatory update on endowment mortgages, which also emphasised the dangers of mis-selling the mortgages. The PIA may take action against offenders.
