U.K. glass maker agrees to takeover by Japanese rival

Article Abstract:

Pilkington PLC of the United Kingdom is to be acquired by Nippon Sheet Glass of Japan for 2.2 billion Pounds ($3.8 billion). The Japanese glass maker already owns 20 percent of Pilkington PLC and will gain additional manufacturing plants in 24 countries with global sales in greater than 130 countries. The purchase illustrates a trend in international conglomerates picking up United Kingdom interests particularly in the construction business.
