U.K. regulators outline banking-system changes

Article Abstract:

Proposed changes to UK banking regulations may provide the Financial Services Authority and the Bank of England with greater powers. The FSA would be able to require banks to provide additional evidence that they are complying with financial stability standards, while the Bank of England may be allowed to offer covert liquidity aid to banks, and be relieved of its obligation to publish weekly returns.

Banks might widen real-estate role

Article Abstract:

The decision by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to allow two national banks to develop and own large real estate properties is discussed. Though names of the banks have not been officially announced, it is reported that officials have identified them as PNC Financial Services Group Inc. and Bank of America Corp.
