U.K.'s Vodafone secures a passage into India

Vodafone Group PLC of the United Kingdom is to acquire Hutchison Essar Ltd. of India for $11.1 billion. The cell phone operator acquisition values Hutchison Essar Ltd. at $18.8 billion. The mobile phone market in India is prime for market growth as only approximately 15 percent of the population use cell phones with 6 million new subscribers signing up every month.
