UPL INTRODUCES SPROUT SUPPRESSANT
Article Abstract:
United Phosphorus Ltd (UPL) has launched a sprout suppressant for potatoes called Oorja in the domestic market. It can be used to supress sprouting of potatoes in cold storage during post-harvest period. UPL is marketing the product for the past 12 years across the globe. Oorja is manufactured at UPL's plant in UK and will be imported into India. Oorja prevents shrivelling, shrinking and sprouting of potatoes and restricts sweetness. Potatoes can be stored at 10-12 degrees instead of the current two degrees. (um)(vr)

Alkyl Amines Chemicals (AAC) has made an open offer to acquire 7.6 lakh shares of Diamines and Chemicals (D&C) at Rs2 per share. D&C has been declared as a sick company after it incurred a loss of Rs4.75 crore in 1997-98. AAC plans to takeover D&C and revive the unit. The offer opens for subscription on December 9, 1998 and closes on January 8, 1998. AAC manufactures aliphatic amines and amine derivatives while D&C manufactures ethyleneamines and polyamines. (nr)
