US Navy aims to get Orion/Aries replacement under way

Article Abstract:

The US Naval Air Systems Command will award several $0.5-million contracts by the end of Apr 2000 for a five-month concept exploration of a multi- mission maritime aircraft (MMA) to replace the P-3C Orion maritime-patrol aircraft and the EP-3E Aries II intelligence-gathering aircraft. The Navy plans to purchase 229 search and attack MMA variants and 22 surveillance and intelligence verisons.

US Navy expands work on organic mine countermeasures

Article Abstract:

Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems and Aerostructures has been granted a US$40 million contract by the US Naval Surface Warfare Center for the engineering and manufacturing development of the Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS). The ALMDS is equipped with a light detection and ranging sesor using a scanning laser that utilizes techology provided by team member Arete Assoc. It is one of the seven programs that comprise the organic mine countermeasures of the US Navy.

US Navy extends work supporting sensors for littoral operations

Article Abstract:

Neptune Sciences will be awarded a contract valued at US$9.7 million over five years by the US Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Div. The contract covers the continued suport of the Moriah, Micro-miniaturized Meteorological and Oceanographic Sensor and On-Scene System (MEASURE) programs. It involves testing existing systems and building new prototypes. It covers all sensors for shipboard use while MEASURE relates to offboard and over-the-horizon devices.
