US Navy funds technology for hypersonic strike missile

Article Abstract:

The US Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division and the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division have called on the industry to join a six-year Hypersonic Weapons Technology (HWT) program. The program will be launched to establish technologies required for a family of affordable strike weapons that are launchable from airborne, surface and submarine platforms. The HWT would support the proposed Hypersonic Strike (Hystrike) program which specifies that the hypersonic weapon, to have an average speed of M3.5 to M7, should be able to attack high-value hardened fixed targets and fleeting and/or time-critical targets at long stand-off ranges.

SLAM ER evolves into an advanced multirole missile

Article Abstract:

The AGM-84 Standoff Land Attack Missile Expanded Response (SLAM ER) is set to enter service aboard USN F/A-18s early in 1999. AGM-84 SLAM ER, which is also expected to arm P-3Cs, is slated to undergo further enhancements starting 2000 to come up with SLAM ER + and eventually into an advanced multi-mission weapon over the following six year or so. McDonnel Aircraft and Missile Systems, a business unit of Boeing, is marketing the AGM-84, in cooperation with the US Navy (USN), to selected countries, including Australia.

Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical wins low-cost cruise-missile defense contract

Article Abstract:

Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical has been awarded a $14.1-million contract under the US Defense Advanced Research Project Agency's Low Cost Cruise Missile Defense program. The company will demonstrate a supersonic Miniature-Air- Launched Interceptor (MALI) missile, which is derived from the ADM-160 Miniature Air-Launched Decoy. The baseline MALI design is 2.36-m long with weight of 51 kg and range in excess of 150 km.
