Forecast puts China's economic power on par with U.S

Article Abstract:

Former OECD economist Angus Maddison predicts China will be on the same level as the US in terms of total economic production by 2015. This forecast is included in his latest report, 'Chinese Economic Performance in the Long Run,' which is based on the controversial purchasing power parity method. Maddison's study even ranks China as the second-biggest economy on a global scale, although other economists do not agree with his results.

U.S. commission sees security risks in foreign borrowers

Article Abstract:

The John M. Deutch fact-finding committee wants better intelligence reports on foreign firms intending to raise capitalization in US markets. The committee, created to study US capability in preventing the spread of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, is making the appeal amid allegations of Chinese military espionage in the US. The committee has made reference to a finding by the Cox Committee stating that China may be using capital raised from US markets for both commercial and military applications.
