U.S. interest in Asia is ebbing at a crucial juncture

Article Abstract:

Asian leaders believe that America's once-dominant position in the region is declining. The US government has reduced its presence in Asia and has sharply reduced its expenditures in the region. The US market is becoming more dependent on trade with Asia, yet America is focusing more on investing and boosting its presence in slow-growing European countries. Substantial US presence in Asia is needed to sustain the growth of its exports in the region.
