U.S. may tighten its regulations on computer exports: nations such as China would find it harder to get powerful systems; industry seeks alternative

Article Abstract:

The US is likely to tighten its existing export controls on supercomputers to include China, much to the dismay of the US computer industry. A draft sponsored by Sen Thad Cochran seeks to authorize imposing licenses on supercomputers being sold to China. Industry proponents claim the draft would do little to curb the Chinese and would hurt the US industry more. Industry proponents are seeking alternatives to the bill that would be effective but less hurting.

Keynes lives on in plan: call to stimulate demand recalls theories

Article Abstract:

The World Bank's scheme to resuscitate crisis-stricken Asia revives English economist John Maynard Keynes' theory of demand management to reinvigorate an economy. The scheme requires the deployment of $10 bil in capital to fund greater fiscal incentive in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea and other affected countries in Asia. World Bank economists expect that Asian economies will borrow majority of the needed money.
