U.S. struggles for drugs to counter biological threats

Article Abstract:

Project Bioshield a program by the United States government to produce drugs and new vaccines to fight biological threats is struggling. Large drug companies are not interested in the contracts because of the high costs, projected limited profits and legal liability. The small pharmaceutical firms that do pick up the contracts complain the Department of Health and Human Services delays tenders, gives vague instructions and changes procurement requirements.

Arms deals strain Madrid-U.S. ties

Article Abstract:

Spain is to sell arms to Colombia and Venezuela placing new strain on diplomatic relations between the United States and Spain. The arms deals are seen by Washington to be potentially fuelling an arms race between the feuding countries. The arms deal between Spain and Venezuela is valued at $1.68 billion.

Accenture group wins U.S. security contract: high-tech project to track foreign visitors is valued at as much as $10 billion

Accenture Ltd. has been granted a contract by the US government to track admissions of nonimmigrants using fingerprints, digital photographs or other biometric techniques. The contract, awarded by the US Homeland Security Dept., is estimated to be worth up to $10 billion.
