Article Abstract:

Madeleine Albright, US Secretary of State, has announced US Pres Bill Clinton's plan to ban new American investments in Myanmar because of the military regime or the State Law and Order Restoration Council's (Slorc) harsh treatment of democratic oppositionist Aung San Suu Kyi. The economic ban will not affect existing investments totaling $240 M. The ban follows another sanction which prevented Slorc officers and their relatives from entering the US.
