United we stand

Article Abstract:

Attacks on ethnic Chinese in Indonesia have prompted great concern among ethnic Chinese communities throughout Southeast Asia and across the world. Chinese groups have called for the atrocities in Indonesia to be investigated, as have non-ethnic Chinese groups. Events in Indonesia have sparked off fierce debate about issues of race and nationality, and in many cases people have been brought into conflict. It is clear that considerable progress still needs to be made to improve the delicate balance of race and nationality in the region.
