Unocal sees a third possible suitor

Italy's oil giant, Eni S.p.A., is considering a bid for the petroleum and natural gas company Unocal Corp. Unocal Corp. of the United States is generating merger interest, securities are up 15 percent in March alone and market value is more than $16 billion.

Corning will slash jobs, shutter plants and halt dividend

Article Abstract:

Corning Inc. announced that it was laying off 1,000 employees, assuming a major charge for the 2001 second-quarter, and close down three plants. The company will take a $5 billion charge for the quarterly period.

Corning will cut 4,000 more workers

Article Abstract:

Corning Inc. is planning to layoff an additional 4,000 employees as a result of the US economic slowdown. The company is also going to idle its manufacturing facilities between November to December 2001.
